10.The center of a circular sunflower with a diameter of 4 centimeters is (-2,1).?

Which equation represents the sunflower?

A) (x+2)^2 +(y-1)^2 =4 B) (x-2)^2 +(y+1)^2 =2

C) (x-2)^2 +(y-1)^2 =4 D) (x+2)^2 +(y-1)^2 =2

explain answer

10.The center of a circular sunflower with a diameter of 4 centimeters is (-2,1).?
The equation for a circle is:

(x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2

where h = the x value of the center...

k = the y value of the center

and r = the radius

so

h = -2

k = 1

r = 2

(x-(-2))^2 + (y-(1))^2 = (2)^2

simplifies to

A (x+2)^2 + (y-1)^2 = 4^2

Is it bad to have a sunflower in 75 degrees?

I bought this sunflower pod thing at a gift shop and it said to keep it in a room that is 60-65 degrees. Is it bad to put in a 70-75 degree room?

Is it bad to have a sunflower in 75 degrees?
Okay, a "sunflower pod thing" sounds like a dried seed head and not a plant. If so, you'll want to keep it fresher longer by keeping it out of intense heat if you want to use it for display. I think it should be okay in 75 degrees.

Good luck.
Reply:yes u should put it outside water 1 time a day !!!!
Reply:Just follow the directions. they might not be kidding. m

What plants grow best under a birdfeeder that uses sunflower seeds. Are shells of sunflower seeds toxic?

I want to plant something under a feeder that I use sunflower seeds in. It seems like the shells inhibit growth of plants inder the feeder. Are any plants immune to this affect? The feeder is in part shade.

What plants grow best under a birdfeeder that uses sunflower seeds. Are shells of sunflower seeds toxic?
YOU DONT REALLY NEED TO PLANT ANYTHING AT ALL.....MOST OF THE VINES GROW FROM THE DROPPED SEEDS IN THE FEED MIXTURE AND SOMETIMES ARE QUITE PRETTY....A WILD MORNING GLORY VINE GREW UNDER MINE.....ITS ACTUALLY HARD TO KEEP THESE FROM SEEDING UNDER A FEEDER...AND SUNFLOWER SEEDS ARE A STAPLE IN QUITE A FEW BIRD SEED MIXES SO THEY ARE NOT TOXIC AT ALL.
Reply:It isn't because the seeds are toxic, it's because they act as mulch. You can try putting something under the feeder to catch them.

Okay If I eat only those sunflower seeds and a nutrigrane bar today is that okay?

cause im trying to loose weight and lets face it the sunflower seeds were pretty bad but I plan on walking a mile today and eating a nutrigrane bar and maybe some corn later is that okay? or is that too fattening?

Okay If I eat only those sunflower seeds and a nutrigrane bar today is that okay?
No because your body will think your trying to stave it and thus everything you eat your body will try to store, thus making you gain weight.
Reply:What a cow !!!

I only eat the flies that happen to fly near my mouth. It isn't often, it's not like I live in Africa.

Try drinking pure water. I think you should just give up eating completely.
Reply:ok
Reply:one day wouldn't make u lose weight even if u eat nothing during all day
Reply:you can survive on them but vegetables and fruit would be good in that mix too
Reply:It will be a problem only if you get to hungry, and let yourself loose control later on. Eat some fruit along with that to help control your hunger.
Reply:That's not enough food, and corn has no nutritional value. In order to lose weight you have to actually eat, you just have to eat the right foods. No junk food or anything fatty. Try eating some chicken breast, salads, and whole grains. Lots of fibre makes you feel fuller so have some apples, make your sandwiches with whole wheat bread, and maybe eat oatmeal for breakfast. If you try to cut back on the food you eat, you are depriving your body of much needed nutrition and you can actually do severe harm to your organs. It also makes your body think it is starving, and instead of melting off the pounds, your body retains whatever fat you have in order to keep you alive. It's called starvation mode. Do yourself a favor and eat, just eat right.
Reply:Of course it isn't OK, you're basically starving yourself! This is no way to lose weight. Walking a mile is good, but that's expending a lot of energy, and you need the right amount of food as fuel.

Haven't you heard of 'everything in moderation'? I suggest you speak to a doctor or dietician about a proper diet and exercise regime because the way you're going you'll either end up anorexic or you'll crack and binge eat. Diets like this never last. You need to eat healthily your whole life, not just do a fad diet for a few months. Losing weight properly takes a lot of time.

Chalice
Reply:Sure if you are a two foot mdget that weighs 10kg!

Do you honestly expect a yes for an answer? Far better to eat a reasonable amount with moderate exercise. There is a reason why the experts say to eat a balanced diet, because it works!
Reply:Most seeds and nuts are fatty. and most processed foods are calorie dense. why not have fruit and regular potions of healthily prepared foods. they fill your stomach help cut down weight and are good for your body.

Why do i get headaches from sunflower seeds?

is there something in the seeds that causes headaches or is it just an amazing coincidence that i get one everytime i eat sunflower seeds

Why do i get headaches from sunflower seeds?
If I got headaches from eating sunflower seeds I think i would choose to not eat sunflower seeds.
Reply:Because of the salt, your blood pressure is probally going up, in turn causing your head to hurt.
Reply:You might be allergic to them. Please see about seeing a dr. about this if it really bothers you to know. Take care.
Reply:I don't know, but maybe you could try a different brand of seeds. Personally I like "Jumbos."
Reply:you may have an allergy to nuts...

What's wrong with the mamoth sunflower when the head droops.?

I'm having the hardest time growing the mamoth sunflower in Arkansas. It reaches a certain point when the head is being pollinated, then the head get very heavy and begins to droop. Is it dying?

What's wrong with the mamoth sunflower when the head droops.?
That is Nature's way of protecting the seeds from rain after they have set. So no worries :0)
Reply:No, normal. They get too heavy for the stalk to totally support them. As long as they are not rotting or falling to the ground, they are normal. Probably a chemical reaction as the result of pollination that tells the head to drop the ray flowers and head and concentrate on filling out the seeds.
Reply:There's nothing wrong with it, mine do it all the time.

I use twine to tie the head up, so that the beautiful flower can be displayed for all to see.
Reply:All the heads on mammoths droop. Mine droop and I'm pretty sure it's because they are gigantic and a bit too heavy to stay up.

Besides, I really like standing under them because it seems like they are all look down at me. Kinda makes me feel like a child again :)
Reply:I think that's pretty much normal for a sunflower. I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Maybe a little more fertilizer next year to help strengthen the stem but my sunflowers do that and they are not mammoth.

Wait until the remote breezes die down from the Bay of Bengal before you set the seeds in the ground.

I would suggest to see what the Karnatakans in the North are doing and follow them.

Help im Looking for a russian sunflower quilt pattern?
"Russian Sunflower" is one of several names for a quilt block that was printed in several Kansas City periodicals. To quote from Barbara Brackman's BlockBase:

"Patterns appeared in three periodicals (Kansas City Star, Weekly Kansas City Star and Weekly Star Farmer) from 1928 to 1960. Early patterns were McKim syndicated patterns but in the early 1930s began a unique column of traditional and new designs by staff members and readers. Reprints available from:

Other names for this pattern are Oklahoma Sunburst, sunburst, Noonday, Rising Sun, Kansas Sunflower, and A Brave Sunflower. It is a double starburst pattern with a circle in the center. The book "The Sister Blocks" from the Kansas City Star Quilt patterns shows this block on the cover - I assume instructions are in the book. You can get the book at Amazon for about $10.00.

Good luck - this looks like a challenging quilt!

How do you know when a sunflower is ready to have its seeds taken out?

My giant sunflower is to big so I cut it down and I want the seeds. I'm not sure if y=they are ready to come off the plant yet. Some are all white and soft and I dont think they are ready. When will they be ready? how will I know?

How do you know when a sunflower is ready to have its seeds taken out?
Bad move. You have to let seeds dry on the plant before you cut them down. Sometimes it makes our yards look unkempt, but if we want seeds that's what we have to do with all flowers.

Throw it away and start over next year. Plant it in the sun where you have room for it to grow. When the seeds are black and birds start pecking at it, you can cut it down.
Reply:what u should have done before cutting it down was put a paper bag over the top secure it with a twisty let them fall naturaly into the bag then they are fully ripe
Reply:The best time to take or cut the sunflower head is that the seeds are all black and backside of the flower became brown. Perhaps, you should dry the whole head part hanging upside down in the garage or somewhere until backside of the flower is dry and brown. Then it's ready to shake it off in the brown bag.

Has anyone ever heard of a sunflower that vines?

I saw some seeds for a vining sunflower a few years ago and did not buy them, am I crazy or is there really such a flower?

Has anyone ever heard of a sunflower that vines?
do to genetics and hybrids they are making many different plants when I started growing sunflowers 20 years ago there where only 4 now there or 100's Johnny seed co look them up and get a free buyer book
Reply:Yes there is go to a garden shop and they will have seed s to buy, cannt just get them at Wal_Mart or co-ops
Reply:nope, sorry?
Reply:I don't think so. The flower may have had a sunflower look to it, but you couldn't make a true sunflower vine. I can't even think of a yellow flowering vine right now.

Anyone here with a peanut or sunflower seed allergy?

my daughter is allergic to them and I just wanted to show her that there are other people that "live with it"...I tell her that the allergy is not what defines her. She is getting older (ten) and feels like she is "missing out" and/or feels "weird" cuz she is different.

We have noticed that many of the "safe" treats (like Hershey's and Lay's stackable chips) are now going with "may have sunflower oil" on there ingredient lists. She is feeling down and needs some encouragement.

Please, if you can give her some, I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Anyone here with a peanut or sunflower seed allergy?
YES, I am severly allergic to all nuts and please first tell her that when they say it may have something, it usually doesnt, its just made on the same equiptment, second she is not missing out. Also try soy butter, , it tastes like peanut butter. Also, she can never be weird when shes allergic to something, and maybe she will grow out of it.

Best regards,

Is it bad to eat the shell of a sunflower seed?

i ate a few sunflower seeds (shell and all).... cuz i always do, but a couple of my friends said it was bad for me, and they said a sunflower could grow in my stomach.. i dont really believe that, because obviously my stomach acid will break down the shell when it's in there. But should i be worried at all that i ate the shell??? thanks in advance~

Is it bad to eat the shell of a sunflower seed?
shouldn't be worried just don't do it again....first of all you don't know who has had their hands alll over it adn second, it could clog your bowels eventually! :)
Reply:of course it can't grow in your stomach(no light) it won't hurt you at all and is an excellent source of fiber-just chew them well !
Reply:Ummm, I don't think it will hurt you, but it doesn't sound very tasty.
Reply:It's not a good idea and in fact, you should make sure that if you eat the sunflower seed shells from sunflower seeds, you have extra time and anusol and a spoon on hand to dig the partially digested shells out of your bunghole.
Reply:it wont hurt you but you shouldnt do it , it becomes like slivers and can cut your bowels
Reply:It's obviously false that a sunflower would grow.

There shouldn't be MUCH of an issue, if it's only an occasional thing, since your stomack acid will break down most of the shell. However, if you eat the shells particularly often or in large quantities, it could pose some problems for you, as it can tear up parts of the digestive tract.
Reply:you should be careful the next time...if you keep eating sunflower seed shells they will eventually cause you problems in your digestive system...
Reply:I think you should buy your sunflower seeds already shelled!

I heard when i was little that sunflower seed shells could give you appendicitis, but I don't know if that's true or not! I seriously doubt it. They are very sharp though and common sense would tell you that you shouldn't eat sharp things!
Reply:Just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't. But I like sucking on them cuz they're salty.

The only danger would be how sharp they are and they could cut something on their way through the digestive process..
Reply:No you shouldn't be worried. It is a good source of fiber.

Will wild birds be able to find and devour recently planted sunflower seeds?

They were planted by my 3 year old and I am concerned because the birds seemed to be attracted to the sunflower garden. The birds left some droppings in the area.

The seeds were planted at a depth of about 1- 1 1/2 inches under the soil. Should I restart the seeds indoors until they are at least 3 inches tall so my daughter is not disappointed if what I suspect is true? She planted 4 packs of seeds.

Will wild birds be able to find and devour recently planted sunflower seeds?
Birds don't usually dig up seeds they like them on the surface of the ground. But your idea of planting seedling is a good idea. They are more likely to survive and grow quicker.
Reply:You need to keep the area where you plant sunflower seeds constantly moist, otherwise they will not germinate. Water every day.

It is also possible they were planted too deep.

Birds would not know how to dig down for the seed, but squirrels will do that.

See source for information on growing sunflowers.
Reply:Not usually, if you have mice and chipmunks that is a different story, but personally I have never lost sunflowers to birds.
Reply:Your daughter will not be disappointed. They're fun to grow. One year I grew a Giant Variety and they grew 13 ft. tall and the flower head was almost as big as a wash tub. Good luck
Reply:You could cover the area with cheese cloth or fine mesh until they sprout. Garden centers usually have a stock.
Reply:I think you planted them too deep, and they won't grow. The seedlings are a good idea, as is the net.

What should I do about my sunflower plant?

It has now grown a possible 2 and a half feet tall, it is planted in what I think is a large enough pot, and the leaves are getting larger and larger. The only problem is that its getting too big to support itself! I just walked into my room a few hours ago and the sunflower was at a 45 degree angle! Should I tie it to a pencil or something to use as support? Or should I just cut the stalk to make it thicker?

What should I do about my sunflower plant?
you need a heavier stake than a pencil. the stake needs to be at least as tall as the plant after you push it into the soil. then loosly tie the stalk to the stake so you don't bruise the plant. DON"T cut it off or you will kill it. It ios most likely leaning because it is trying to get to the sun. turn it a half turn every day so so and it may straighten back up.
Reply:You need a broom handle to tie it up, Go to this site.

Most sunflowers get top heavy when they bloom and can use the support of staking. If they are planted very close together, they may support themselves, but usually a heavy rain or strong wind will cause them to lean and they won't straighten up on their own. Planting sunflowers along a fence is the easiest way to stake them. Bamboo stakes are also strong enough to keep the upright. Use care when inserting the stakes, so you don't damage the sunflower roots.
Reply:you would need a support stake that is more substancial than a pencil. If the plant is 2 and a half feet tall you would most likely need a stake that is a minnamum of 3 feet tall, remember some of the stake need to be sunk into the soil. Using sturdy strech plant tape to secure the plant to the stake is also reccomended.

I like to eat David SunFlower seeds and then swallow them instead of spitting them, is this normal?

I think is a waste of time to chew something to then have to spit it out and make some gross mountain of sunflower seeds filled with spit, so I rather chew them and taste the salt and then swallow them.

I like to eat David SunFlower seeds and then swallow them instead of spitting them, is this normal?
I don't see anything abnormal about it. Just know that whatever you put down your throat will eventually come out the other end. And, since sunflower seeds are a great source of fiber, your body isn't going to digest them that well. I'll try to put this as nicely as possible, don't be surprised to find whole (or parts) seeds in the toilet after using it.
Reply:If that's what you enjoy, why stop. My son eats them that way too.
Reply:I do...so yea...why would it be weird. Eat them how ever you want. Whatever floats your boat!!!

Does eating bags of sunflower seeds cause heart problems?

I'm an avid seed spitter. I've been eating sunflower seeds by the BAGS for roughly ten years or more. Through any given month, I'll buy 8 bags (which is my stash), and go through 2-4 in during that period.

But I don't eat THROUGH a single bag. It normally takes me a week.

So it leaves me wondering: Does eating this much result in serious heart problems?

Does eating bags of sunflower seeds cause heart problems?
good question now you have me worried i am the same way you are i LOVE sunflower seeds and my dad gets mad he calls me a bird. lol
Reply:no they are good for you and may help lower cholesterol
Reply:Nuts of all kinds are healthy for you - especially good for the heart. If you want to avoid salt, it shouldn't be a problem to buy them lightly salted or with no salt. I eat a lot of sunflower seeds and have no problem purchasing them with or without salt.

As with all things, however, too much of something can potentially cause problems. Either check with your doctor or perhaps even a better idea is to go to Ask Jeeves or some such sight and look the info up. But I wouldn't exactly be worried about it.
Reply:i've never heard of that
Reply:Do you have heart problems? the last I heard seeds and berries and gathering foods are all good for us. The oils, fats from nuts and seeds are good for our hearts and not bad. So, I'm just curious why

you'd ask the question. the only harm I can see is if the seeds aren't harvested or grown without pesticides. That may make some difference but I don't know wbout the way they are grown or harvested and this wouldn't be a heart issue. So, further research is needed before I'd stop eating my seeds. Good luck.
Reply:idk if so im in trouble i love sunflower seeds i eat like 6-9 bags a month
Reply:If it does I am in real trouble! I go thru a small bag a day! The salt can raise your blood pressure and cause water retention, but other than that they are full of fiber and other good stuff! I have congestive heart failure, doc says my eating habits are not the cause, but said to stay away from salt, so I wash them off in hot water to eliminate most of the salt! So I don't think you are in any danger! Enjoy!
Reply:no.
Reply:no but it can sure mess up your colon, and what about all that salt that can't be good for you.
Reply:I have never heard of any seeds causing heart problems. I would be more concerned about putting those whole seeds in my mouth. I would be concerned about pesticides or handling of the unshelled seeds.

I never could enjoy sorting them in my mouth! And it is pretty gross spitting those hulls all the time!
Reply:well i really don't know but my dad eats them alot. I think he is like adicted to them

When is the end of the Israeli harvest for sunflower seeds for export to the USA?

While sunflowers seem to be summer crops requiring warmth and irrigation, I have found at least one site offering fresh sunflowers exported from Israel even now in late January. Are sunflower seeds harvested all year long? If not, when did the havest season end?

When is the end of the Israeli harvest for sunflower seeds for export to the USA?
The Negev Desert in Southern Israel stays warm in the wintertime, with a high as much as 15 to 20 degrees Celsius (59-68 degrees F) or sometimes higher.
Reply:Well, they just have them in bins, that's why they can offer them all year around, just like any other country in the world.

If you storage sunflower with less than 11% of moisture, seeds are perfectly fine for a long time.

What should I do? (sunflower question)?

Just for fun I planted a black oil sunflower seed from my birdfeeder in a cup of plotting dirt. Now the seed has sprouted a root, but the seed is upside down, so the root is heading to the top of the cup. It has already changed its direction so its heading towards the bottom of the cup, but I am worried about the stem when it grows. Should I try to replant it the right way?

What should I do? (sunflower question)?
Your sunflower is fine. There is no right or wrong direction to plant a seed because the seedling will always know the right direction to grow. However, I would suggest that you find an outside location to grow it because sunflowers need plenty of room to grow. Either a very large planter, or the ground.
Reply:You can leave it alone. Plants know which way is up, and it will naturally grow towards the light. So unless the light is underneath it, it will be fine!

Let it complete it's entire life cycle, and you'll be able to plant a ton of them next year with the seeds!
Reply:The root and stem will take the natural direction that they're supposed to go. So don't worry. You will need a bigger pot with more soil or plant it outside. Sunflowers, even small ones need a lot more than a cup of soil to grow to their full size.

Why aren't the seeds in a sunflower head black like planting seeds are?

My mom bought sunflower seeds, grew them and wants to grow more using the sunflower seeds from the head of the plant. They aren't black though.

Why aren't the seeds in a sunflower head black like planting seeds are?
Depends on type of sunflower......Some are dark...some striped....some not as dark....some stripes are lighter. Some varieties are large ....some small....just depends on type of sunflower. Many new varieties have been developed over the last several years.

Generally.....with any sunflower....after the seeds become mature....they are darker in color.
Reply:If you let them mature long enough on the plant they will turn black like the ones that you planted.. you must have picked them to soon.. better luck next time..
Reply:If the seed packet shows black seeds, they will turn black as they ripen on the flower. As the time gets closer to harvesting the seeds from the flower, they'll turn black if that's what they are supposed to do.

Different varieties of sunflowers have different colored seeds. Some are striped black and white and some look almost brown. The completely black seeds have a high oil content and if you want to grow your own birdseed, this is the kind that's really good for the birds.

Before you sow the seeds from this year's sunflowers, you have to keep them cold for a while otherwise they may not germinate next year. Lots of flower seeds need to go through a cold spell first and the way you can do this at home is to wrap them in a paper towel, and put the paper towel in a zip-close plastic bag. Put that in your refrigerator for the winter and then plant the seeds in your garden early next spring.

Hope this helps! Happy gardening.

Butter, olive oil or sunflower oil?

I have some large white mushrooms growing in my lawn, I have picked one and want to cook it. I was going to slice it and gently fry it, which is best butter, olive oil or sunflower oil to fry it in?

Butter, olive oil or sunflower oil?
well olive oil is the healthiest but somehow I think that butter will go best with mushrooms. Be sure it's safe anyways, wild mushrooms can be poisonous.
Reply:olive oil is best for mushroom.
Reply:olive oil definitely
Reply:Hi. I know it's naughty but butter is the best,

go mad and use butter.
Reply:sunflower
Reply:got to be butter for flavour, the best way is to microwave them so as not to lose any flavour, only do for about a minute, but are you sure they are mushrooms ,not not you could do yourself some serious damage
Reply:Check out these websites about mushrooms. Some of the most poisonous are the most innocent looking. Just because it is white does not make it safe. Amanita Phaloides is deadly, pure white and beautiful. There are ways to test the mushrooms, but you have to be an expert to be sure. My husband and I have eaten some wild mushrooms but they are ones that are very distinctive like Chantarelles and Morels. Here are some web sites to give you more information:

As far as cooking mushrooms is concerned, I like butter but I don't want too much saturated fat, so I combine it with olive oil. Sunflower oil doesn't add much flavor; it is really neutral, but it would be ok. I sometimes add a few herbs, but I don't put garlic on because I think it fights with the mushroom flavor.
Reply:I think sunflower oil should be tried.
Reply:Olive Oil
Reply:olive oil is healthy but burns very quick, for things like fry ups I would recommend sunflower oil
Reply:Olive oil is the healthy choice but you can also add a bit of butter once the olive oil is heated, it adds a wonderful aroma and better taste. the technique works for steaks too.
Reply:olive oil
Reply:Probably sunflower oil, and I wish you luck after you eat it, if you're not sure what kind it is. I have had more than one dog die from eating wild mushrooms.
Reply:check they are actually mushrooms not toadstools cause they could be poisonous.

Its upto you with oil some will say this or that is better but most time they taste the same. I even cooked mushrooms in micro when i was re building my kitchen. Neede no oilf just a little time in micro.
Reply:CRISCO!
Reply:fry in a little olive oil,i use extra virgin for the flavour, salt and pepper, near the end of cooking add a wee knob of butter to give them a nice nutty flavour, serve them on lovely buttered toast and a big mug of tea..oh i want some now mushrooms are my fave thing in the whole world!
Reply:butter %26amp; olive oil
Reply:I seriously wouldn't pick mushrooms out my yard and eat them. Make sure they are the nonpoisonest kind. Other than that butter is quite flavorable.
Reply:olive oil is the healthiest one
Reply:Use the olive oil you will keep the flavour and dont wash them they hold the water like a sponge
Reply:Butter but you may want to reconsider eating it unless you are 100% sure it is not a toxic variety of mushroom. You may get sick or seriously sick or worse case scenario you could die.
Reply:i think its olive oil
Reply:Sunflower is the best. You will shine like a Sun. Hope you donot reach near the sun.
Reply:I would use sunflower oil olive oil is to overpowering and don’t like to be heated to high temperatures, butter can burn and taste nasty, but should you be eating mushrooms that you found in your garden?
Reply:Olive oil has teh best taste and is most healthy. also add some garlic and other herbs.

What is eating my sunflower plant stems?

My sunflower plants are doing beautifully and are almost ready to flower. They have had no pest problems until the past week. Something is chewing on the stems now. They have already killed one plant and disfigured a second (it is sort of growing sideways along the ground now.) I am wondering what could be eating them and how to deal with this naturally.

Thanks!! (BTW we have tons of chipmunks but I have not seen any at the plants, and did not see any slime trails indicating slugs. I put hotsauce on the stems tonight, hope it does not hurt the plants.)

Pros & cons of consuming sunflower seeds?

These days, sunflower seeds come in a variety of flavours. Salted, Dill Pickle, Seasoned, etc. They seem like a harmless snack - other than them being salty, is there any reasons why people shouldnt' eat them? Are there any benefits to eating them?

Pros %26amp; cons of consuming sunflower seeds?
the seasonings are loaded with SALT.

so check the sodium. it is not harmless,

especially if you are prone to high blood pressure.

the seeds are normally roasted in oil.

often partially hydrogenated oil, which is not good.

if you were asking about raw sunflower seeds

then i would say eat to your heart's content they are great.

but the oil and salt they add (plus see if there are dyes or articificial flavors in the seasoning) is not good.

get raw ones from the health food store and

make it your #1 food.
Reply:Lots of B and E, [zinc?] vitamins...just drink water with them.
Reply:Yes, and don't eat the shells! They don't digest well and the sharp pieces could give you anal fissures.

YUM!
Reply:Sodium makes you retain water. less cuts and definition and more of a Rosie Odonnell look
Reply:When you ea them u have to make sure that u get the shell off or else it will stab ur gum and get stuck in you teeth and be painfull unless u know how to eat them with the shell.
Reply:con: lots of salt and fat

pro: lots of protien and other vitamins
Reply:Way too much sodium if you eat them salty. They were great when I was replacing them for cigarettes. However I almost chocked to death on one and as I was gasping for air, I was thinking about the irony of it all.

It wasn't tobacco that was gonna do me in, it was going to be a stinking sunflower seed.
Reply:The only harmful thing would be the sodium intake.

A couple of my friends have used them to stop smoking. It helps keep something in their mouth, and eases the urges they have.

Does mustard oil have fat like refined vegetable or sunflower oil ?

if one is on a diet, not very strict tho, is it ok to cook food in mustard oil rather than sunflower or vegetable oil. Woould that be of nay help to avoid fatty food ?

thanks

Does mustard oil have fat like refined vegetable or sunflower oil ?
Oil is a type of fat so anything that has the name oil is going to have 9cals/gram. Don't concentrate on low fat, instead try to balance and moderate fat. Sugar and refined flour products are the real bad guys. Ease up on soda and white bread. You have to have adequate amounts of good fats in your diet ti burn fat, make hormones etc. If you're not deep frying, the amount of fat used in cooking is usually negligible.

It is good to let the pot dry out once in awhile. Sunflowers do not need a lot of moisture, but of course, they like some while blossoming. Just go easy on the watering.
Reply:Just keep the soil as damp as a wrung-out sponge. Water until excess comes out the bottom of the pot. Then empty the pot saucer.

How do i sprout sunflower seeds for my parakeet?

i got from sunflower seeds (from hamster mix), can i sprout them and feed it to my parakeet? how do i do it? what other seeds can i sprout for parakeet?

How do i sprout sunflower seeds for my parakeet?
I am so thrilled that you're asking this question.

I've been sprouting for my parrots every day for the

last 10 years. I believe it's one of the best foods

that you can feed to them. When you sprout a seed or

legume, all the stored up energy for creating life

becomes active, and it's a powerhouse of nutrients.

There are a few things you need to know before

starting.

First, you shouldn't sprout the stuff from hamster, or

even bird seed mixes. They're not high quality, and you need to have high quality seeds for health reasons. From

the research that I have done, it seems that the only

cases of sprouts tainted with E. coli were ones from

seeds that were not organically grown. That's because

traditional farmers use straight-from-the-butt manure,

which is where E. coli comes from. Organic farmers

use only composted manure, and that process kills any

E. coli.

So, that means you should only sprout organic seeds

and legumes. You can find them at any health food store (Whole Foods, if you have one of those near you) usually in the bulk bins. Sometimes you can buy premixed little pouches of seeds for sprouting, but they're usually more expensive and don't always use organic seeds.

The sprouting:

(I always prefer to use glass or stainless steel)

1. In a jar (I use a mason jar) put in up to 1/3 seeds and fill the rest with water.

2. Let soak for 8-10 hours (I soak over night, or when I'm at work).

3. Drain into colander.

4. Rinse well under the faucet, while flipping the seeds (30 seconds is good).

5. When finished rinsing, keep flipping seeds to drain excess water.

6. Let sit for around 12 hours (it doesn't have to be exact).

7. Repeat steps 4-6 for 3-5 times. Within this time you'll start to see them sprouting. It's up to you how long you want them to sprout. I prefer to stop when I see a little tail.

8. The last time you rinse them, let them sit for another 12 or so hours (step 6) but instead of rinsing them, put them into a plastic container and pop them in the fridge (don't rinse before storing them, as they'll be too wet).

You'll have sprouts that will last at least a week.

It's seems more difficult than it is. I've done it everyday for the last 10 years.

If you have any questions, just email me.
Reply:g day some people make it sound so difficult, to sprout your sunflowers just put them in the ground and water them, ive been doing this for the last 20 years and they work just fine.

make sure you plant a few more than you need and when they sprout thin them out ( pull the weak ones out ), i have found that the normal sunflowers do better than the grey-striped ones, make sure you sow them in spring though summer and they will grow just fine

How do i remove sunflower oil stains from my T-shirt?

I accidentally splattered some hot sunflower oil on my T-shirt, i've washed the thing and it hasn't removed the stain can anybody tell me how to get rid of the stain or is that the end of the T-shirts life span?

How do i remove sunflower oil stains from my T-shirt?
1. Spread fabric/garment on a flat surface with the oil based stain facing up.

2. Sprinkle any type of baby powder (cornstarch or regular) generously over the stain. Don't be stingy with the powder

Let the powder rest on the stain for several hours or even overnight.

3. Brush or shake off the excess powder.

4. If the oil/powder residue raises up on the fabric, scrape it off, reapply powder and then let fabric rest again.

5. Wash or dry clean as usual.

6. If washed, check the spot before placing the fabric in the dryer.

7. If the oil spot is still there, rubbing alcohol might remove the spot, but alcohol could also lift the color so TEST in an inconspicous spot before using.
Reply:Try to iron it with good brown paper on top of it. It normally pulls out stains
Reply:i use pears soap its g8 for oil stains.just dip in water and then rub on the clothes then wash as normal.
Reply:In South Africa we have a product called HANDY ANDY. It is a surface cleaner with an ammonia base. Spread some of this on the stain and leave for about 30 minutes before adding to your normal wash. If the stain is persistant, just repeat the process. I have removed oil stains from all washing (table cloths, clothing, tshirts, etc for years. It does not bleach the fabric and leaves no residue markings. Good luck.
Reply:i would have said the brown paper bag trick but unfortunately you washed it first, i don't think there's much hope for it now, you've set the stain.
Reply:It may not be possible, but you could try squirting with washing up detergent first. Rub it in then wash in the usual way. Another way is to use a hot iron and put brown paper on the tee and iron over ther stain until the oil is in the paper instead.
Reply:try with some baking powder add a little water to a tablespoon of baking pwder and let it soak in then wash on 30c at first just in case the stain does´t come out first time the heat you add to a stain the harder it is to remove
Reply:Make a paste of Dawn and baking soda. Apply it to the stain and let it sit overnight. Then wash as usual.

Why does hamsters like sunflower seeds?

well some of us knows that Hamsters do like sunflower seeds but why? Thank you

Why does hamsters like sunflower seeds?
Because they are packed with healthy fats. And he finds these tastier than any other of the seeds. Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of dietary fiber, they contain Vitamin E, B. and minerals such as, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus, and they are also a good source of calories.

Very important to the nutritional quality of his diet.

Can I use sunflower oil to fry chicken?

The recipe says grapeseed oil or canola oil to fry but can sunflower oil be used and still taste good?

Can I use sunflower oil to fry chicken?
Yes! Please do use it. It will taste great. :)

Not only will it work, it will work better than grapeseed or canola oil because it is more stable in high heat conditions such as deep frying.

And I've also found that it adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the chicken, so it is a wonderful choice. :)

From Wikipedia:

"high-temperature frying (260 degrees Celsius / 500 degrees Fahrenheit and above) :

super canola oil, almond oil, apricot kernel oil, high-oleic safflower oil or sunflower oil, peanut or soybean oils"

Note that grapeseed oil isn't listed, and sunflower oil is! "Super canola oil" is also listed, but most canola oil sold in stores these days isn't "super canola oil" - it's just regular canola oil, and not as stable under high heat frying conditions.

"medium temperature frying (below 190 degrees Celsius / 375 degrees Fahrenheit) canola, walnut, sunflower or sesame. Use or any of the higher-heat oils for sauces"

This one includes regular canola and sunflower oils, and *not* grapeseed oil. If you're planning on frying at a medium temp, then you could use canola oil.

Grapeseed oil is sometimes used for medium-temp frying since it won't smoke until it hits 485F, but it begins to break down at around 360F and create free radicals, which aren't good for the body. So I don't use it for frying anything unless I want to fry below 360F. I use it mainly for salad dressings, and making flavored herb oils (such as basil %26amp; garlic oil) for gift giving.
Reply:it workes fine but burns hot be careful
Reply:sure.
Reply:Sure. Go for it.
Reply:Yes,you can--but i prefer a gas-mask.
Reply:HEY CHICKENS ARE PEOPLE, TOO! YOU'RE A MURDERER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Reply:Yes as long as you put your seasoning on it,it will be good.

If I plant a roasted, salted sunflower seed.....will I get any results?

Im always eating DAVID sunflower seeds and I noticed a few days ago that the flowers outside my building had died. I got to wondering if I planted a few of my sunflower seeds, and cared for it ofcourse, would actual flowers grow. Maybe a silly question...but I was just wondering....

If I plant a roasted, salted sunflower seed.....will I get any results?
nope because its already proceced and all !
Reply:No, roasting killed the seed inside, it will not grow. Try a seed from a fresh pumpkin, squash or watermelon.....they will grow.
Reply:It would take a miracle for the salted seed to germinate. Go for it though, remember that miracles do happen.
Reply:No. Roasting kills the live seed.
Reply:Not a chance. I was eating a grapefruit a while back though and noticed some of the seeds in it had already sprouted inside the grapefruit ! Freaky! So I planted them and now I have a little grapefruit orchard growing ! Actually they are about 2 inches tall....
Reply:once it was roasted the seed was nutralized and no longer able too accept fertilization.
Reply:The heat it took to roast the seeds killed them so they can never grow.
Reply:if it was roasted and salted then the seed was destroyed obviously

What does a sunflower smell like?

doing a poem due tomorrow and its about a sunflower growing...i need to make it as concrete as possible(appeals to senses: sight smell sound touch taste). could u help me out here?

What does a sunflower smell like?
A sunflower does not have a strong floral smell. They attract pollinators with the bright colors, obviously.

However, I think they just have a green, planty smell. The flowers also feel a bit sticky in the middle.

Rubber Slippers

Problem in growing sunflower.?

Something eat my sunflower's leaves, what can i do for it ? Thank you.

Problem in growing sunflower.?
you can use a mild solution of dish soap about 1 tsp of dish soap to a gallon of water and spray it on or seven but i think that ants pollinate them cause the wild ones and my domestic one always have ants on them or it could be something like rabbits or deer eating them and them you just have to chase them off some say hanging a bar of Irish spring bar soap near trees and such will repeal animalls
Reply:Sometimes insects do bother my sunflowers' leaves. It my case the Japanese beetles have been bad this year. If you can identify the insect you may be able to trap or kill them. But, you might end up killing "good" bugs too. Also, even when my leaves get eaten my plants still grow. Also, I don't know if you've grown sunflowers before but, it has been my experience that as sunflowers grow sometimes lower leaves just naturally die and fall off. So maybe this could be part of the problem. Good luck!

Where are the sunflower fields in kansas?

just want to photograph them. its the sunflower state but where are they?

Where are the sunflower fields in kansas?
I'm not too familiar with the smaller highways around the state, but off of I-70 in Western Kansas (West of Hays) is where I've noticed the most fields.

I live in Topeka and typically you can find sunflowers here just mixed in with other wildflowers. But hey that could be pretty too!
Reply:The western part of the state is where you'll find the big fields of sunflowers. Get a little ways past Topeka on I-70 to start finding them.
Reply:I used to live in Wichita and when we would take I-70 to Denver, we would pass TONS of Sunflower fields! I always wanted to pull over and jump into the middle of the field and take pictures! So, if you are anywhere close to I-70... start heading West!

Why does the sunflower follow the sun? And how does it return to the eastern end during the night?

Th suflower starts looking at the sky when the sun rises, tracks it till the sun sets and what happens to it during the night? How does it return from west to east? And why does sunflower alone follows the sun?

Why does the sunflower follow the sun? And how does it return to the eastern end during the night?
It's called phototropism, the reaction the sunflower has to light. I assume when the sun goes down the sunflower goes to sleep, and first thing in the morning it turns its' head to look east towards the sun.

On the side, gravitropism is the response the plant has for the roots to grow down, and the stem up.
Reply:The moisture in the cells of the plant move and the cells mositure content is affected by the heat and light.

The reason this happens is the cells in the sunlight begin to collapse and shrink.
Reply:waiting on the sun the next morning

I read that sunflower seeds are a good sleep inducing nightime snack, but what about just the kernels?

I'm referring to what's inside the sunflower shell, as those are sold also, next to peanuts snacks..etc..

I read that sunflower seeds are a good sleep inducing nightime snack, but what about just the kernels?
Are you kidding? Why would you eat the shell?
Reply:I hope you haven't been eating the whole thing at night (or any other time) - that would give ANYBODY nightmares. The kernels are what most people are talking about when they say "sunflower seeds" - unless maybe they're gardeners!
Reply:In Spain they sell them toasted with salt, they are very yummy, you have to remove the shell and the taste on the shell stay in your mouth, mmmmmmmmmmmm

You can do them at home. You need:

sunflower seeds, salt and water

In a bowl put the seeds (with shells), salt and cover them with water. Leave several hours or overnight.

Drain them and put in a oven tray and bake them for a while, I don't really look the time, just check them every now and them.

Enjoy
Reply:when people say the seeds..they mean whats inside. the kernals are the actual seed. the outside is not really digestable
Reply:So are bananas and they are not going to give you indigestion, the oils and protiens in the nuts/seeds of any kind will be of help, almonds are much better for you.
Reply:Eating shell is harmless but not recommended to eat.

How many flower heads can one sunflower plant have??

Well I accidentally planted a sunflower seed and it grew to have 17 total (for now :)) flower heads. It's very unusual to me so has anybody heard of this or knows wether its a mutation or there is such a type of sunflower?

How many flower heads can one sunflower plant have??
There are some sunflower varieties that grow multiple flower heads. I don't know the name however, but it is not a mutation. I had one sunflower plant that was at least 10 feet tall and I stopped counting flower heads after 20.
Reply:There are also wild species that do that..I'm looking out of my window now at one that has 20 or so on it...and another on the side ofmy house the same way..they are wild self voluntary plants not from bird seed..we have them all over the p[lace here in Central Texas..
Reply:what are flowerheads?
Reply:I grew one like that once... it wasn't as tall as an average plant and had a flower at each point where there was a leaf. The seed came from wild bird seed... I imagine it was a strain chosen, or a mutation created for large scale production.

I have a pic around here somewhere, did have seeds - more than 8 yrs ago now. Take a pic of yours if you can %26amp; save some seeds when ripe... they're cool !!

How do you eat sunflower seeds?

how do you eat sunflower seeds? do you chew them whole? do you suck and crack them open and eat the kernal and spit the rest out? Just curious.

How do you eat sunflower seeds?
It's too much work spitting out the shells...I eat them.
Reply:I buy the ones out of the shell. I eat them like they are, or in salads.
Reply:eat em spit out the shell
Reply:as pop corns, or you can springle them on salads or mix in rice salads, try add them to soft fresh cheese on your toast!!!

What is eating my sunflower plant stems?
Whiteflys. get Seven dust in your garden section.

or try to spray a soap bland,

a little dove detergent mixed with water kills most bugs.

blocks their poor little lungs from breathing by creating a soapy film over their tiny mouths
Reply:Hey thanks, it is whiteflies. I found that shaking the stem made them fly and it was clear. I got a safe spray and will be putting up glue traps. I have 2 left where there were at least 8, but at least they all did not go! Thanks! Report It

Reply:Excactly what glen said..CUTWORMS..here is some info on them..and cures....

Reply:Whatever the bug is, it will be deterred with a soapy spray. Just make sure and spray in the evening or early morning. This will let it dry before the heat of the day and not scorch the leaves.
Reply:cutworm if the stem is eaten all the way through. japanese beetles if not

Have anyone seen a sunflower with more than one bloom?

This sunflower has been growing in our yard for several years now and it would only have one bloom at the top every year. This year though it seem to have several (five or six). The big one at the top and the babies are blooming under.

Have anyone seen a sunflower with more than one bloom?
We have sunflowers. Ours did that after a couple years, too. We think it's a mutation, but it's fairly normal now. I actually love the ones with tons of flowers on them.
Reply:yes.

But your same sunflower is probably not coming back. Its new seeds that are growing from a previous flower.

If you fertilize them you can get a MONSTER huge sunflower.

I accidently got wter run off onto some one year from roeses and one grew8 feet high and the bloom was about 20 inches across.

What to do with Sunflower plants in Autumn?

Not sure what to do with very tall 5-6 foot now dying sunflower plants in my garden - do I cut them back, dig them up?

What to do with Sunflower plants in Autumn?
You can harvest the seeds if you like, leave the seeds for the birds, if you like, if you leave the seeds for the birds, some will probably fall to the ground and reseed. The stalk and the roots will not grow back, they are annual plants. Cut them up and use them for mulch or toss them into the compost pile.

If you harvest them for your own use, put the seeds in a pie pan with salt and leave it in the sun to have "naturally" roasted, they taste better that way than using the oven.
Reply:Sunflowers are annuals; they won't come back in the spring. I suggest cutting them down and composting them.
Reply:Leave them for the birds!
Reply:i've seen people leave them - they will drop seeds for next year and the birds will have something to feed off of or cut them back and dry the heads and save the seeds for planting, roasting, bird seed...
Reply:It is your call,if the heads look good leave them up and you will have lots of birds and maybe squirrels. If it looks terrible chop it down. If they have huge stems you might have to "chop " them down. They are not easy to dig up either , waiting for Spring doesn't make it easier.
Reply:You can do either or leave them there for food for a great variety of birds for the winter. If you choose to cut them down save the seeds.

Can rabbits eat sunflower plants? Mine just has, will he be ok?

My naughty bunny has eaten one of my sunflower plants, (which I had grown from seed) that I was growing in the garden, will he be ok? He seems fine but I just thought I should check!

What other plants in my garden should I watch out for? If its poisonous will he eat it anyway? or do they have a natural instinct to avoid bad plants?

Can rabbits eat sunflower plants? Mine just has, will he be ok?
They have a pretty good sense of what is toxic, but not completely. He shoudl be fine with the sunflower plant. It was so nice of you to grow it for his snack! lol

They shouldn't et any of the lily family (bulb plants) or juniper or yew..

Here is a list of plants that are toxic to rabbits%26gt; http://www.double-d-ranch.org/articles/t...

Sunflower isn't on it..
Reply:You want to be careful how much the rabbit eats when it comes to sunflower seeds, if the rabbit ate them as sunflower seeds are very fattening.

While most rabbits are fat, too much fat is still not good for them.

Doodad
Reply:he will be fine. even you can eat sunflower plants. it wont be tasty, but it wont kill you.

most animals are smart enough to avoid bad plants. but just check online what are dangerous.

i live in africa, so i cant help you with the plants. sorry.
Reply:yes
Reply:they use sunflowers in pig and cow feed so im sure he,s gonna be okay.

rhubarb leaves and eggplant leaves are toxic.I grow both in my yard and the wild rabbits never touch the stuff.so i think they know better. last year i was over run by wild bunnies. I was worried about the garden but they didnt bother it .Know what they did eat though? My MARIGOLDS! everyone of them right to the ground! I plant alot of marigolds because they keep insects away from other plants.( they have a chemical that ants and earwigs hate) but apparently the rabbits love them.haha.good luck.%26gt;%26lt;%26gt;
Reply:yes he will be fine they can eat most plants.
Reply:if you want to know what plants are ok or not, just look on RWA website. It has a comprehensive list of all edible and poisonous plants.
Reply:I was as concerned as you are when Thumperess went chowing down on my mother's garden plants it was like an all-you-can-eat buffet for her. Fortunately I picked her up before she ate anything more than the first plant. So I searched for a site that will inform me of any kinds of plants that could make her sick or worse, kill her. This one helped me a ton. Check it out it has ALL plants (and what parts of them), with their pictures, that could harm bunny . Hope I was of help.

Reply:Definitely he will be fine. Rabbits can eat all kind of plants.

Can babies eat sunflower seeds?

My little sister is 10 months old and my Mum doesn't know if she can give her bread with sunflower seeds in it. Can anyone help?

Can babies eat sunflower seeds?
no
Reply:I wouldn't advise it, at that age she won't be able to chew or digest it, or even choke.
Reply:If there are no shells I would say yes.
Reply:Well at first response was no!!! and if youare worried enough to ask a questiona bout it then again no better be sure than sorry
Reply:Yes
Reply:yes as she will have teeth to chew so it will not do her any harm, let me know if she enjoys her bread.
Reply:my children were eating them as soon as they had teeth
Reply:The advice is usually no nuts or seeds until the age of 3, so I would say no
Reply:i wouldn't recommend it
Reply:Well if it's in the bread and it is swallowed within the bread then yes it should be fine, they wont be digested and will show up again, if they are on their own dry, deffo NO! No peanuts either! Moist within a bread would be fine, supervised.
Reply:NO
Reply:i wouldnt have thought so they are too small for her to chew and digest properly
Reply:No. They could get caught in her throat and she could choke.

Can i eat the shell of a sunflower?

my mom once said that she began to eat the sunflower shell and it got lodged in her throat for two days. it cut her throat and that made it swell up, she almost suffacated. is it really ok to eat the shell?

Can i eat the shell of a sunflower?
i wouldn't if i were you, there's no reason to....it's not like they taste good. just spit them out.
Reply:Chew it well lots of fiber
Reply:Yes, sometimes I like to eat the shell but like your mom said, you have to be careful because some sharp pieces can lodge in your throat.

I would only eat the shell if I was eating them one at a time and making sure they were thorough chewed. I wouldn't do it the way some people take a handful of peanuts and chew them up all together.........guaranteed you'd be running into problems.

There's really no food value in the shell so there's not much point to eating it anyway. If its just the salt you like, try buying the already shelled salted sunflower seeds.
Reply:you can but why would you want to.
Reply:I had the same type of thing happen with a potato chip the "sharp" edge of the chip irritated my throat . It didn't cause as much of a problem as the one that your Mom experienced however it was still scary. I have eaten sunflower seed shells with no problem. Just don't eat them if it worries you.
Reply:Oh my gosh, read what you just wrote and answer this yourself. It made no sense. You stated your mom began to eat a sunflower shell and it got lodged in her throat for 2 days now my counteract on this is don't you use your teeth to break open the shell and take the seed out and begin to chew it, right? Unless you meant she swallowed it whole and it got lodged and if it got lodged she would have been in the Emergency room for it to be removed. Plus, she could have drank water to wash it down. Anything that gets lodged or stuck in your throat you cough it out or gag it out. It's just my observation about this question. Some people are allergic to sunflower seeds and this is why it may have felt like it was lodged in her throat and swelled up. It's ok to eat the shell cause you will be chewing it like if you were chewing the seed itself. That's why some sunflower seeds shell are flavored with ranch, spice or vinegar so people can eat them. Why don't you try it yourself and have a glass of water to drink if it does get stuck? This way you can answer your own question. It's no different when you get a nut stuck in your throat or other food particles.
Reply:I always eat the shell...the shell contains lots of fiber and other vitamins. You just have to know how to eat it really. You have to chew it up pretty good...make sure you feel no sharp edges in your mouth before you swallow or you may wind up with more problems that it's worth. If you can't do that or just don't want to then just buy the kind that are allready deshelled is all.

The shell is edible though and normally results in no problems when eaten by adults. DON'T give them to children!
Reply:you can, that may happen to you too, they are hard and sharp but they are also edible.
Reply:you can eat it but i heard if you do and then poop it hurts idk i'm too scared to do it lol
Reply:i eat them all the time.just chew it real good
Reply:Yes
