I saw some seeds for a vining sunflower a few years ago and did not buy them, am I crazy or is there really such a flower?

Has anyone ever heard of a sunflower that vines?
do to genetics and hybrids they are making many different plants when I started growing sunflowers 20 years ago there where only 4 now there or 100's Johnny seed co look them up and get a free buyer book
Reply:Yes there is go to a garden shop and they will have seed s to buy, cannt just get them at Wal_Mart or co-ops
Reply:nope, sorry?
Reply:I don't think so. The flower may have had a sunflower look to it, but you couldn't make a true sunflower vine. I can't even think of a yellow flowering vine right now.

Is it okay to feed my pet mice raw sunflower seeds?

My critters love sunflower seeds, so I give them to them for treats, but the only unsalted ones I can find say that they are raw. They look just like roasted ones, just noat all salty. Is it okay to feed them raw sunflower seeds?

Also, I'm planning on mixing up my own feed for them, and I was debating whether or not to add flax seeds, since it wasn't mentioned in many recipes, but they're known to be very healthy for humans.

Rodent experts? Any opinions, information?

My mousies thank you in advance.

Is it okay to feed my pet mice raw sunflower seeds?
Sure, mice love sunflower seeds. You can just buy some hamster treat at the pet store,it has all kinds of seeds in it,or you can use wild bird seed if you feed the birds.

Reply:Yes, mice love sunflower seeds!
Reply:I have a rat who eats raw sunflower seeds and he is perfectly healthy.

Rodents love to shell them.
Reply:Amazingly enough, with the possible exception of Ratatoule and he was a rat anyway, mice are not known for their cooking skills and tend to eat everything the way nature serves it, raw. So you should be ok and if they don't like them, they can always say no.

Or you could fry them up with a little bit of garlic butter, salt and pepper and serve them with a side salad and a nice thimble of chilled white wine.
Reply:The problem with seeds is that they have a really high fat content. If your mice become obese, they become more susceptible to problems such as bumblefoot, heart problems, diabetes and decreased lifespan.

They are great as treats, but not as the main food in the diet.
Reply:mice love sunflower seeds but they do have really high fat content, they're pretty much the equivalent of our junk food because they have not much nutritious value and if you put them in the food mix, it's always going to be the first thing eaten

Stuck sunflower seed - no joke!!!?

Okay, you will think I'm crazy. Well I am but that's not really relevant here. Anyway...

I was eathing sunflower seeds today and somehow I think I got a sliver of husk stuck in my throat. It's stuck there and feels like a little needle pricking me each time I swallow. Here's what I've tried, some of which are suggestions from friends and family:

Brushing my teeth

Gargling

Rincing with mouthwash

making myself burp

making myself sneeze

using my finger to try and get at it

being a little sick

drinking a whole lot of water at once

drinking something really hot

Does anyone know of anything else I could try. I'm not really good with anatomy but it feels almost as though it's under my jaw.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stuck sunflower seed - no joke!!!?
That always happens to me with Doritos and popcorn. No worries, it will eventually soften up enough to come out, though it is annoying.
Reply:Best way: eating RICE

Rice is sticky, and when you slowly swallow it, i'll slide down the throat, and stick to the sunflower seed and push it down. I did that when a fish bone got lodged in my throat. If that doesn't work, see the doctor, and they'll get it out in like... 2 seconds.
Reply:Try eating fresh bread or roll, not little bit's, but put a large amount in you mouth at one time. Swallowing, should remove any sliver of the sunflower logged in you throat.

Doing this may cause, constipation. If this occurs I sure you know how to take care of that problem.

If this does not take care of the problem, you must see a doctor. My best to you.
Reply:Might not even be a sunflower seed :\

Last time that happened to me, I drank some water and gave up. I went to sleep, and when I woke up it was gone.

But I wouldn't really want to try that, you might choke on the little thing ;]
Reply:try using ur tongue to take it out
Reply:Well first off try to avoid touching it with your finger!

I suspect that it may not be a piece of anything BUT

A cut maybe (from a seed of course)

So touching it is a bad idea - to avoid infection

Just keep on using mouth wash and gargling ect. If it is indeed a cut, you should put some salt in water and wash the cut 1-3 times a day until you see a doctor about it if the pain persists.
Reply:Don't worry it most likely already went down (especially if you have eaten afterwards) but what you're feeling now is the irritation that the sunflower seed made while scraping against your throat. This feeling can be very misleading and can truly feel like there is something there. It should get better each day and will probably last a few days.
Reply:blow your nose or cough

Olive,Sunflower or vegetable oil which is best for high cholestrol?

I have very high cholestrol 7.5 I use olive oil spread but not every day. I work in a garage and it,s easy to pick up a sandwich but I choose salmon or chicken with a low fat count.I use sunflower oil for chips (yes I know chips are bad) and olive oil for all other cooking. so, are any oils good for you or are all bad?

Olive,Sunflower or vegetable oil which is best for high cholestrol?
Some oils can be a benefit, like Flax oil with a heavy ALA content. It has been shown that a small amount of olive oil can be a benefit as well, and many European diets include a small glass of that everyday.
Reply:sunflower oil better than veg or olive oil!!
Reply:Olive oil is the best for reducing cholesterol. Sunflower is 2nd best. Canola is healthy but it's made from rapeseed which can cause thyroid problems. Same for soy.

Olive oil is best because it not only reduces the bad cholesterol drs have found it increases the good. If the good is high in proportion to the bad then you don't need a special diet.

My uncle had a count of 400 %26amp; the dr. said he didn't know what kept him alive. He was put on a really strict diet %26amp; was miserable. When I heard about the good versus bad I told him to go elsewhere %26amp; have both checked. It turned out his good was 175 so the bad wasn't really that bad. He was told just to watch his pork intake %26amp; use kosher salt %26amp; olive oil when cooking. A big difference from the diet he was on. That was 15 yrs. ago when he was 65 with a family history of heart problems in the men. Yet he's still alive %26amp; kicking w/o any kind of heart problems.

So if I was you I'd find out the bad versus good number. But olive oil is definitely the best %26amp; the only fat that increases the good.
Reply:Hi olive and sunflower oil in that order,
Reply:Olive oil is fine for you. Try to avoid the chips. and do potato wedges in the oven instead

Are sunflower seeds bad???

I recently stopped chewing tobacco and started chewing on Sunflower Seeds (the flavored kind). I usually take less than a handful and keep them next to my gums just as I did my chewing tobacco. My gums and inner lips usually go numb after awhile, and I'm sure it's because of the salt. Is this a bad thing? I would hate to go from one evil to another. In addition, I've had multiple root planings done on my teeth from the chewing tobacco. The seeding won't cause problems on my tooth roots as well, will it?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me!

Are sunflower seeds bad???
Why don't you switch to unsalted sunflower seeds, you know the kind you can buy without the shells. This way you don't have to worry about cracking them, the seeds themselves shouldn't be a problem. Actually they are very good for your health in general. They have one of the highest concentration of vitamin E of any food.

My sunflower?

i have a newly sprouted sunflower seed and it keeps growing but when it grows huge leaves they die and new leaves grow why is that?

My sunflower?
You should place it by a window, and water it at least a little bit each day. Using fertilizers also help.
Reply:It's trying to get taller. Is it getting enough sunlight?

Sowing sunflower seeds!!?

I bougth a packet of sunflower seeds and it says to sow 18 inches apart. Anyway what I want to know when sowing them do you just place one seed 18 inches apart? Or is it better to sow 2 or 3 seeds together and then sow another 2 or 3 seeds 18 down?? Its just that 1 or 2 of them may not sow, so by sowing 2 or 3 together that will improve the chances of at least one of them sowing. because I want to plant them evenly all along one side of the wall.

Sowing sunflower seeds!!?
I usually plant them 2 seeds 2 inches apart and then space 18 inches apart and do it again. That way I can thin out the weaker of the two if needed and move it to a space that didn't fill in.
Reply:I panted 6 in one big pot, I put one in the middle and the others going around the sides. When the 2nd set of leaves grew I seperated them and planted then were I wanted them.

I have had no problems with any dying.
Reply:sow the 2 or 3.....more chance for production of at least one....this is the way my husband and I plant all flowers...good luck
Reply:2 seeds to a hole will do the trick. You will be amazed how easily they grow...and how wonderful and happy they will look. If you see that both plants are growing from the one hole, remove one of them and put it somewhere else, otherwise they will fight with eachother for space. Dont forget that once the flowers have finished, you can cultivate the seeds from the flower head. They are great for eating too. Goodluck.
Reply:You answered your own question.
Reply:yes follow the instructions and i find it helps if you crack the shell slightly
