Rats and Sunflower Seeds ?

I was wondering if I can give my rats the unshelled SALTED sunflower seeds. I can't seem to find unsalted anywhere.

Rats and Sunflower Seeds ?
You can, but only a few. The salt isn't good for their little bodies, its ALOT of salt in such a small package.

Despite what someone said, DO NOT give RAW peanuts. ever, or any raw bean.

Sunflower seeds in shells are fine to give to them, I do buy a little mixed bag of nuts and seeds at the grocery store once in a while, They can have almonds, walnuts, all that fun stuff, in the shell. Its a toy and a treat combined. It makes them work to get at the good stuff.

Try buying the unsalted, shelled sunflower seeds, you should be able to find them. Like I said, only give them a few of the salted ones, because they are very salty for them.
Reply:dont risk it...better safe than sorry...
Reply:It should be fine, just don't give too many. Try looking in the vegetable department @ walmart. I know they have raw peanuts and I think they have sunflower seeds too or look in the bird seed %26amp; get a bag there.
Reply:I buy my sunflower seeds from the local farm store. They carry it cheap.
Reply:to much salt can be bad for thier health but you should also be careful how many sunflower seeds they eat, they are like the mars bars of the rattie world! giving them too much "bad" foods can lead to health problems such as skin irritations.
Reply:yes u can but only in moderation. too much salt isn't good for them.
Reply:Salted probably won't do her much harm, apart from her needing more water. Try looking in the pet department at supermarkets. They are bound to have a huge pack of bird seed sunflower seeds. Also look in garden shops at the seeds, and at petshops.

Sunflowers can be fattening to mice, and its probably the same as rats, so I would limit them to special treats. :) I hope this helps you
Reply:its safer to give em a cookie lol. Rat's should eat shelled nuts and seeds. I used to own two. I fed em everything I ate...they are rats. lol. Think Templeton from Charlotte's Web. Just feed em whatever you got lieing around.
Reply:You can get them at the pet store. If they don't have them by the rodent food, check by the birdseed. I buy "No waste" birdseed that has unshelled and unsalted sunflower seeds.
Reply:no the salt is bad for them you can find unsalted sunflower seeds in the wild birdfood area of your local wal mart or other store. plus they are way cheaper there just dont give them alot of them due to there high fat content.
