These days, sunflower seeds come in a variety of flavours. Salted, Dill Pickle, Seasoned, etc. They seem like a harmless snack - other than them being salty, is there any reasons why people shouldnt' eat them? Are there any benefits to eating them?
Pros %26amp; cons of consuming sunflower seeds?
the seasonings are loaded with SALT.
so check the sodium. it is not harmless,
especially if you are prone to high blood pressure.
the seeds are normally roasted in oil.
often partially hydrogenated oil, which is not good.
if you were asking about raw sunflower seeds
then i would say eat to your heart's content they are great.
but the oil and salt they add (plus see if there are dyes or articificial flavors in the seasoning) is not good.
get raw ones from the health food store and
make it your #1 food.
Reply:Lots of B and E, [zinc?] vitamins...just drink water with them.
Reply:Yes, and don't eat the shells! They don't digest well and the sharp pieces could give you anal fissures.
YUM!
Reply:Sodium makes you retain water. less cuts and definition and more of a Rosie Odonnell look
Reply:When you ea them u have to make sure that u get the shell off or else it will stab ur gum and get stuck in you teeth and be painfull unless u know how to eat them with the shell.
Reply:con: lots of salt and fat
pro: lots of protien and other vitamins
Reply:Way too much sodium if you eat them salty. They were great when I was replacing them for cigarettes. However I almost chocked to death on one and as I was gasping for air, I was thinking about the irony of it all.
It wasn't tobacco that was gonna do me in, it was going to be a stinking sunflower seed.
Reply:The only harmful thing would be the sodium intake.
A couple of my friends have used them to stop smoking. It helps keep something in their mouth, and eases the urges they have.
