Will my sunflower die?

I had a sunflower growing on my back porch in a large, large pot, it was growing great, actually bigger than the ones in my garden, but I went out this morning and found that someone or something had ripped the top off the plant leaving only the stalk and the leaves that had grown below, is this going to die now?

Will my sunflower die?
Sunflowers are annuals, and live only to produce seed and die. If the head (seeds) had already matured, the plant will die. If the head was immature, it will probably 'sucker out' (produce new secondary growth) and regrow.
Reply:If it had only one blossom or flower and no other buds, it probably won't form another. However, keep watering it for awhile and see. There are different types of sunflowers. Some have only one huge flower at the top of the stalk and some have more than one on additional side stems but each flower is smaller.
Reply:I SO SORRY COZ THAT GONNA HAPPEN.
Reply:It may (depending where it was severed) develop a lesser head at a node down the stem, but it will never (if it was a mammoth or similar type with a terminal head) be as big or produce as many seed.
