I want to plant something under a feeder that I use sunflower seeds in. It seems like the shells inhibit growth of plants inder the feeder. Are any plants immune to this affect? The feeder is in part shade.
What plants grow best under a birdfeeder that uses sunflower seeds. Are shells of sunflower seeds toxic?
YOU DONT REALLY NEED TO PLANT ANYTHING AT ALL.....MOST OF THE VINES GROW FROM THE DROPPED SEEDS IN THE FEED MIXTURE AND SOMETIMES ARE QUITE PRETTY....A WILD MORNING GLORY VINE GREW UNDER MINE.....ITS ACTUALLY HARD TO KEEP THESE FROM SEEDING UNDER A FEEDER...AND SUNFLOWER SEEDS ARE A STAPLE IN QUITE A FEW BIRD SEED MIXES SO THEY ARE NOT TOXIC AT ALL.
Reply:It isn't because the seeds are toxic, it's because they act as mulch. You can try putting something under the feeder to catch them.
