Can i feed a dove sunflower seeds?
As for your heading question, yes. I feed doves as well as squirrels, rabbits and other animals and birds black oil sunflower seeds and they love them.

Your bird will survive until a hawk, cat or teenager with a bb gun gets it. I would not recommend you letting it loose if you plan on having a long relationship with the bird. Hawks really like doves because they are slow flying and do not respond as fast as some other birds.
Reply:Yes, doves love sunflower seeds.

No, you should not allow your dove to fly free (unless it is a homing pigeon).

In the US, it is illegal to intentionally release domestic stock into the wild - first, they compete with native species for food and resources, second, they can interbreed with the native stock, hybridizing the population and third, they can introduce disease into the native population.

Not to mention that it is cruel to release domestic animals that no longer have the necessary survival skills to exist in the wild.
