Sowing sunflower seeds!!?

I bougth a packet of sunflower seeds and it says to sow 18 inches apart. Anyway what I want to know when sowing them do you just place one seed 18 inches apart? Or is it better to sow 2 or 3 seeds together and then sow another 2 or 3 seeds 18 down?? Its just that 1 or 2 of them may not sow, so by sowing 2 or 3 together that will improve the chances of at least one of them sowing. because I want to plant them evenly all along one side of the wall.

Sowing sunflower seeds!!?
I usually plant them 2 seeds 2 inches apart and then space 18 inches apart and do it again. That way I can thin out the weaker of the two if needed and move it to a space that didn't fill in.
Reply:I panted 6 in one big pot, I put one in the middle and the others going around the sides. When the 2nd set of leaves grew I seperated them and planted then were I wanted them.

I have had no problems with any dying.
Reply:sow the 2 or 3.....more chance for production of at least one....this is the way my husband and I plant all flowers...good luck
Reply:2 seeds to a hole will do the trick. You will be amazed how easily they grow...and how wonderful and happy they will look. If you see that both plants are growing from the one hole, remove one of them and put it somewhere else, otherwise they will fight with eachother for space. Dont forget that once the flowers have finished, you can cultivate the seeds from the flower head. They are great for eating too. Goodluck.
Reply:You answered your own question.
Reply:yes follow the instructions and i find it helps if you crack the shell slightly
Reply:One for God, one to grow and one for the crow.
