Sunflower Garden?

I live in Georgia and I want to plant a small sunflower garden. Growing up, my grandfather had a large field and I loved walking through the field with him. It was his favorite flower and now that's he's passed on, I want to plant my own garden as a memorial.

I love sunflowers, but the only thing I know about them is how they look. When is the best time to plant them? How do I plant them? Do they need any special "food" when I plant them? How far apart? How do I take care of them? I appreciate any help.

Plant them in the spring. You can start them in pots inside, or direct seed.

If you plant a variety, including the ones that have smaller heads, but flowers all over the plant, rather that one big one - those self-sow freely and often come back on their own the following year.

The finches around here love all the sunflowers.

When you direst sow, or transplant, keep them watered til they establish. They don't need speical food. And the volunteers that come up susequent years - I've never had to do anything with - they don't seem to need me at all!
Reply:GET THE PACKETS OF SEED OR A DEAD GIANT ONE...PUT TWO OR THREE OF THE SEEDS IN EACH HOLE IN A GOOD SOIL....THEY ARE EASY BUT NEED WATER....THEY COME UP IN ABOUT A WEEK AS TWO LITTLE LEAVES WITH THE SEED STUCK TO ONE...JUST WATER IT AND MAKE SURE ITS GOOD SOIL..... THERES ALOT OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES...BUT THE BIGGER THE BETTER...
Reply:That sounds beautiful, you don't have to do much to sunflowers. you plant them in the spring. I have even just scatterd seeds and had them come up. They are my favorite.
